Who we are
How it works

"In my country [Cameroon] I was imprisoned for 3 days for no other reason than my being of an ethnic minority group. The journey to the U.S. was hard and dangerous. I was so happy to reach this country. But when I got here and asked for asylum, they put handcuffs and shackles on me, I was confused, and I couldn’t understand… I could only trust in God. God protected me the many months I spent in detention. He guided me through the interviews and court hearings, and I was granted asylum. When they released me from detention, I had exactly 3 cents. I cannot believe that in this country people are willing to help a stranger. I am grateful to the person who paid for my airfare to go live with my cousin and to Miles4Migrants for having made it possible.”
“Hello, we are Amilcar and Alexi, two gay men. To save our lives from the discrimination and death threats by the MS-13 gang, we left our native country, El Salvador, on November 25, 2018, heading to the United States. After we left, we were kidnapped and trafficked in Mexico but at the end of so much suffering, we arrived on November 9, 2019 at the Jardin de las Mariposas sanctuary in Tijuana, where we awaited our process to enter the U.S. on January 28, 2020. We spent three months and twelve days in detention where we also suffered from the discrimination of the officers and managers but finally the day came when we could once again see the light of the stars and finally be happy as a couple. We are so grateful to each of the organizations such as Transgender Law Center, Jardin de las Mariposas, Minority Humanitarian Foundation, and Miles4Migrants who helped us with our flight. Every person who helped us, who were there always waiting to ensure that we would not fail. Thanks, a thousand thanks from the bottom of our hearts.”
